Trauma is a person’s emotional response to a distressing experience. The impact of trauma is prevalent, tailor-made to one’s past and generally comes without warning. Individuals, organizations and communities can take specific actions to understand the burden of past traumas and minimize re-traumatization in the present and future. The National Apartment Association (NAA) and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing believe organizations must go beyond being trauma informed and become resilience oriented.

Dr. Laura Leone, Consultant, National Council for Mental Wellbeing
Laura Leone, DSW, MSSW, LMSW, brings over 20 years of experience in mental health and substance-use services to her role with the National Council. She’s also provided training and consultation on integrated care, suicide prevention, evidence-based practices, value-based payment readiness and more. Dr. Leone has published and presented nationally, having held leadership, clinical, administrative, supervisory, research and publication positions at a federally qualified health center; in private practice; at an in-patient psychiatric hospital; and at McLean Hospital’s OCD Institute. She obtained a DSW in Social Work from the University of Southern California, plus a M.S. in Social Work from Columbia University.
